Alberta has a strong history in agriculture. The geography of this beautiful province lends itself to this valuable activity. For many years, Albertans have dedicated themselves to cultivating the land and raising livestock. What specific value does agriculture hold in Alberta? We know there are many values. Here are just a few that we at Spragg’s Meat Shop hold nearest to our hearts:
- Livestock Production – Alberta is well known for its beef production. It is the province with the largest number of cattle in the country. Following this wonderful tradition of raising livestock, we are pork producers. However, there are only a few of us in comparison to cattle producers.
- Grain Capital – Our beloved province is home to many farmers that produce wheat, canola, barley, and rye. At Spragg’s Meat Shop, we value this tradition and use this knowledge in our own production of barley for our pigs.
- Pork – Western Canada is world-renowned for its excellent pork production. Alberta has made a name for itself internationally as one of the choice origins for pork exports. We are proud to provide our pork locally, striving to offer this prized product to our surrounding communities.
We invite you to come visit our shops and market stands to find out how Spragg’s Meat Shop is contributing to the value of agriculture in the province. Our care from piglet to slaughterhouse is a testimony to our Albertan ancestors and their commitment to agriculture. We’re sure you’ll appreciate the taste of locally grown and produced free range pork that contributes to our strong Albertan tradition.

About Spragg’s Meat Shop Spragg’s Meat Shop is a family-owned and operated business located in Rosemary, Alberta. Greg and Bonnie Spragg raise hogs, process, and market their pork products direct to Albertan consumers. Spragg’s works hard to produce the best pork for Albertans, from the day the pigs are born, to the day the pork chops are cut, bacon is smoked, and the roast is marinated. The Spragg family hopes that you get as much enjoyment eating their pork as they do getting it to your table.
