Canada Day Cookout Menu Ideas for the Campsite or Backyard

Canada Day, the long weekend Canadians wait all year for, is finally just around the corner, and it’s the best reason to get together with your friends and family for a classic home-style cookout!

From homemade dressings to pies to BBQ’d everything and fresh garden salads – this weekend is notorious for good food, great laughs, and memorable moments that get relived year after year.

Whether you’re planning your first Canada Day get-together, or you’re a seasoned vet, here are a few fresh ideas to add to your regular roster of classic Canada Day menu items!

Protein

In our humble opinions, it’s not Canada Day unless you have the grill out! Hot dogs, sausages, burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, a rack of ribs – you name it. These are the essentials for a successful Canada Day fiesta. Don’t forget, Spragg’s offers quality cuts of locally and ethically raised meats that will be perfect for your cookout. From our seasonal Russian Dill Pork Sausages to specialty pork cuts and a selection of beef, chicken, fish, and lamb, you’ll find everything you need at our meat shops.

Vegetables

Not everyone’s favourite, but really it all just depends on how you serve them! Try switching it up with a Carrot Slaw, Caprese Skewers (you fancy), or a fresh garden or potato salad. Or grill up some corn on the cob on the ol’BBQ – a classic!

Dips and Sides

A classic is always a good hummus or spinach and artichoke dip for fresh veggies and chips. However, we are craving this Roasted Red Pepper Tomato Feta Dip, Spicy Queso Dip, and Hot Sausage Beer Cheese Dip – all featuring sausage from Spragg’s of course!

Dessert

Did someone say dessert? It’s our favourite course, after all! From s’more’s to Cobbler to whoopie pie’s to a fresh apple pie – you can’t go wrong with the classics.

Drinks

A staple – aren’t we right? For those who are looking for non-alcoholic options, this lemon lavender iced tea is sure to be popular. Otherwise, having an array of Rose Sangria, a classic all-Canadian Caesar, Hibiscus Fizz, and Mojitos will keep everyone refreshed. Or, instead of beer or bourbon, combine the two and try this Beer-Bourbon Splash!
