Another year has come and gone, and it’s a great time to reflect and set some goals for the New Year. While some goals may be challenging to keep, we think these goals are so delicious that they’ll be a breeze!
Here are three New Year’s Resolutions for Local Meat Lovers:
Shop More Local
Shopping for your meat locally means that you are supporting your local farmers (that’s us!) and your local economy. By shopping local, your food has to travel a shorter distance, and you are, therefore, reducing your carbon footprint and helping the environment. Plus, when the distance from farm to table is shorter, your food tastes better, is more nutritious, and you know EXACTLY where your food comes from.

Cook Delicious Meals at Home More Often
Going out to eat (when it is safe and restriction permitting) or ordering in from your favourite restaurant is a treat and a great way to support your local businesses. However, we think that you should dust off your kitchen appliances and cook delicious meals at home more often! When you cook your own meals, it means you have more control over the ingredients and can ensure you are feeding your family high-quality, fresh and nutritious foods. You can also get the whole family involved! It’s a great way to teach your children new skills and creativity, a great way to bond with your partner and make happy memories with your family.
Try a New Recipe Every Week
We get it! We also have our favourite go-to meals that we make time and time again. But this year, why not make a resolution to try something new once a week? Be adventurous and try a new recipe, maybe sample a cut of meat you’re not used to, or even cook a different type of meat. If you are a die-hard pork tenderloin fan, why not try Boston butt steak or a leg roast? Maybe even branch out and try lamb chops? The world is your oyster (pun intended), and you may just find a few new favourite meals to add to your weeknight rotation!
If you’re looking for new recipes to try, take a look through our blogs!
Looking to try something new this year? Stop into either of our meat shops in Rosemary or Calgary, find us at our two booths at the Calgary Farmers’ Market, or shop our Alberta raised, sustainably farmed, free-range pork at various stores in Calgary, including all three Community Natural Foods locations. Thank you for shopping local!
